[Message from Aaron Smith to Sac County Board of Supervisors:]
Honorable Members of the Board of Supervisors,
I am happy to announce that yesterday, the Glenn County Board of Supervisors directed staff to implement California's medical marijuana ID card program. Although the majority of the board members expressed that they had not originally supported Proposition 215 or SB420, they conceded that the county had an obligation to uphold its role as a subdivision of the state by implementing the ID card program and that it would be a useful asset for local law enforcement. As is almost always the case, the implementation plan passed with no opposition from the public or law enforcement.
In 1996, Glenn County voters rejected Prop. 215 by 61% but fortunately the county's leaders were wise enough to acknowledge that the political debate over the state law was now well over. Glenn County joined 37 other California counties-- over half of which contain constituencies that did not approve Prop. 215--that have already approved plans to implement the ID card program.
Because common sense and the rule of law prevailed in Glenn County, their law enforcement officers will now have access to this valuable tool. Hopefully Sacramento County-- where voters approved Prop 215 by 53%--will follow the lead of counties like Glenn and implement this program as soon as possible.
Please feel free to contact me any time for more information on the medical marijuana ID card program.
Sincerely,
Aaron Smith
