I just found this site through a google search and I'm sure glad I did!! I'm very interested in online activism. I'm not one for carrying signs at City Hall and getting arrested for the cause. I admire those that do, but it's just not for me. Besides, using the internet, it is possible to reach far more people than I might by protesting in person.
My wife and I just moved to Spokane from Idaho Falls because of the compassionate use laws and also good medical care, generally. I've had HIV and Hep C for about 12 years now and I've used cannabis, both recreationally and medically, since my early teens. She's been sick for about half as long and also is a long-term marijuana user.
Our first Dr's. appt. is tomorrow at the local clinic here. We will, of course, speak with the doctor about the possibility of him making a recommendation for our use of cannabis. I hold little hope, though, that a doctor working at a local clinic, under the auspices of the govt, will do the right thing for us.
There is a local guy here that runs a co-op of sorts under the name of "Spocannabis". I've met him and he gave me a number to a doctor in Bellingham that will recommend marijuana to almost anyone for $200. I have no intention of fueling that corruption and, living on social security, I hardly have $200 to give some sell-out just so I can get my meds.
Personally, I'd like to organize an informal local patient's network or join one that already exists. I have no faith in the government, either local or federal, and I'd prefer my name not be on any lists at DEA headquarters. I'll take my chances with getting caught and worry about my defense then. At least in Washington I'm not facing a minimum mandatory 5 years for growing even a single plant. That's the law in Idaho... scary for an AIDS patient.
Well, I'm glad to be here and I look forward to getting to know everyone.
Peace,
Michael
welcome to spokane....and good luck
my names marshall....ive been in spokane for going on six years and thus far have had no luck in getting a card.
though i may not need it as bad as you may....i beleive that everyone should have the choice and the resources.
i suffer from p.t.s.d., very bad anxiety, a sleep disorder, level o.c.d. and last but not least....anti social personality disorder. and just the mention of the use of marijuana to my counselor and they were ready to turn me away. i had to pettetion spokane mental health to keep me enrolled.
im not looking for a hand out...im not looking to get over on the system....
all i know is that ive been a recreational pot smoker since i was 12 or 13 and recently(last 4 years) have found it to be the only thing that keeps me at a point i can maintain and function.
and i would prefer a puff now and then rather than shoving a hand full of pills down my throat everynight. bad for my ulcer. also...the medications eiter make me incapacitated or the have extreme sid-effects.
if you have any suggestions other than quack, sell-out doctor you were refered to, please let us know. and vice versa, if i or anyone else has any ideas....please enlighten us.
Finding a Brave Doctor
Have you tried the THC clinic here in Spokane? They are very careful who they take but if you collect all your medical records and fax them they will determine if you qualify. They want to help and it sounds like you meet the criteria. What's good about it is the system need never know. Call them at 1-800-723-0188. They are called the Hemp and Cannabis Foundation. You can also go to their site www.thc-foundation.org/clinic
Good luck. Hope this helps. A place to start anyway where people understand you.

Everybody saying that Spokane Docs wont give up the scrip are right; but there is a clinic that is put on by the Hemp and Cannabis Foundation. Following is a quote off their site @ http://www.thc-foundation.org/home.html

Welcome to Washington

Welcome to Washington
There's lots going on here in Spokane with regard to medical marijuana - some good, some bad. We have that big HempFest in August and SpoCannibis and great attornies if you ever need one (check out their site at http://legaljoint.net). I'm surprised Darren at SpoCannabis didn't tell you about the THC clinic here in town - or, is it not going anymore?
I really appreciate your attitude. I believe in doing what's right, as well. I'm being charged for it but, I firmly believe, it was the DEA's way to shut people like me up. I'm the patient standing trial in the active topics forum.
I have a blog going http://commonpeopleforum.squarespace.com where I'm researching a class action suit against the DEA and providing as much factual information as I can.
Again, welcome to our community!
we are moving there soon
My husband has been a card holder in Oregon for six years now, and we are moving to Spokane area in about two weeks.. I have been researching to find out how to maintain my coverage. I did call that 800-723-0188 and talked to Sam. He was very helpful. That place I called seems to be the safest and most knowledgeable place to contact with all your questions regarding the legalities of Washington Medicinal Marijuana..Peace-Love and Joyyyyy
Vicki still in Oregon
Let me know..
