Lassen County Action Alert
From: "F. Aaron Smith"
Date: Fri, June 22, 2007 9:44 am
Dear medical marijuana supporter-
Next Tuesday, June 26, the Lassen County Board of Supervisors will be conducting a hearing on the implementation of the statewide medical marijuana ID card program. The Public Health Department is seeking the board's approval to move forward with the program in Lassen County.
Once the voluntary program is made available, local
patients will have the opportunity to obtain the ID
cards through the county. The program provides further protection from detainment, arrest or the seizure of medicine for those who choose to become cardholders.
If you live in Lassen County, please take a few
minutes to contact the Board of Supervisors and
express your support for this important program.

WHY WE SUPPORT CALIFORNIA’S MEDICAL MARIJUANA ID CARD
PROGRAM:
- The majority of California's counties have already
approved local implementation of the program,
including Plumas and Shasta. There is no reason for
Lassen County to enforce state law any differently
that its neighbors do.
- The ID card program will greatly assist
law-enforcement in identifying bona fide medical
marijuana patients.
- The ID card protects patients and caregivers from
lengthy detainment, arrest, seizure of property or
unnecessary court proceedings. While cases involving
legal medical marijuana patients are ultimately
dismissed, this causes an undue burden on our judicial
system and most importantly, the seriously ill.
- The county has a legal responsibility to implement
the program, as a requirement of Senate Bill 420,
passed into law in 2003 and later upheld by the San
Diego Superior Court in December 2006.
- Voters' support of safe and legal access to medical
marijuana has only grown stronger since the passage of
the Compassionate Use Act. According to an independent
field poll conducted in 2006, three out of four
Californians support implementation of the state's
medical marijuana laws—including 63% of Republicans.
