November 21, 2005: Privacy at Risk

Hello supporters of medical marijuana rights,
The current state law, SB 420, requires all California counties to issue identification cards to qualifying medical marijuana patients. The Compassionate Coalition has learned that, under the current policy, patient records will be held for 1 year. This puts the patients in danger, as the DEA will have access to the records during that period.
California's medicinal cannabis ID card holders must not be vulnerable to persecution by the federal government!
Fortunately, this situation can be easily rectified.
Please take a few minutes to call the CA Dept. of Health Medical Marijuana Program at 916-440-7836, requesting that they destroy patient records as soon as verification is completed. This is the current policy in San Francisco, where about 8,000 residents currently have medical cannabis cards issued by the City Health Department. San Francisco has postponed implementation of the state cards until such patient privacy is guaranteed. Every California patient deserves equal respect, dignity and protection.
November 22nd: S.F. ASA Meeting:
The San Francisco chapter of Americans for Safe Access to Medical Marijuana will meet on Tuesday, November 22nd, at 7:30pm, at 223A 9th street, in San Francisco, California. Compassionate Coalition would like to congratulate the City for passing a relatively fair medicinal cannabis dispensary ordinance. Until very recently, it looked like the legislation was stalled, due to escalating special interest infighting. Fortunately, cool heads prevailed, and an ordinance was passed that the mayor, the Board of Supes, and the patients can be proud of. As Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi noted, this is historic legislation that can serve as a model for other communities.
November 26th: AAMC Meeting:
The El Dorado Foothills American Alliance for Medical Cannabis group will meet on Saturday, November 26th, from 2:15 until 4:20pm. One of the longest running medical marijuana support groups, EDAAMC meets the fourth Saturday of each month, at the same time and location.
